When my children returned from school I always had a snack ready for them at teatime. My Cheese Toasts were a particular favourite enjoyed with ketchup. I used to deep fry them but these can also be made in the oven for a healthier but still delicious option.

    When my children returned from school I always had a snack ready for them at teatime. My Cheese Toasts were a particular favourite enjoyed with ketchup. I used to deep fry them but these can also be made in the oven for a healthier but still delicious option.

    Step 1

    Preheat oven to 400℉ (200℃)

    Step 2

    Beat the eggs well in a bowl

    Step 3

    Add all ingredients (except bread) and mix well together to form a thick batter

    Step 4

    Grease a baking tray

    Step 5

    Top bread slices thickly with the batter leaving a little margin at the edges as the cheese tends to spread while baking

    Step 6

    Bake in oven for 8-10 mins or till the cheese bubbles and the bread gets toasted

    Step 7

    Serve hot with ketchup
